Carpet for Winter

Our design ambassador, Jane Carolan from Venia Design, shares her carpet tips for this winter
Be Floored Be Styled

It feels like winter decided to show up and that first nip in the air had me running for the carpet rugs I had put away for summer.

You may be starting to think about carpeting or re-carpeting your home or just freshening up a room or two with the change of season. If you are one of those living in an older style home this may be your time to consider products available which will meet your needs for warmth and durability at the same time.

Unsure where to start?

We suggest from the ground up! Your choice of carpet colour will act as the backbone to your overall colour palette and will instruct many other interior styling aspects, from paint colours, soft finishes, textures and tones to hardware and everything in between. We all know that selecting a carpet can be overwhelming and a considerable expense, so don’t be afraid to seek advice, it is often the hardest thing to pick as it always feels like such a big investment.

If you’re lucky enough to have a Villa at your fingertips, traditional colours that aren’t going to date are the way to go and our new Rhino Rhode Island range would be perfect for this.  it’s natural appearance and beautiful delustered yarn offers class and timelessness to any home.

The darker carpet colours in the Rhode Island range are great for balancing. Homes with high ceilings and larger rooms can handle darker floors and you’ll find that a darker carpet will ground the space and will serve to warm up a room, giving larger spaces a cosiness while adding depth and character. A dark colour choice alongside Rhode Island’s durability and dense pile will do the trick in homes with active young families and messy pets.

That being said, if the area is small, with low bearing ceilings and/or a lack of natural light look at lighter floor options. An ideal choice would be the Rhino Portland range, a 15 piece colour palette makes finding the perfect tone easy. This carpet instantly brightens your space whilst giving the illusion of volume and depth.

Lighter colours present an elegant backdrop for decorating and to build upon tone and texture. I know you hear me say it again and again but light greys and taupe’s work beautifully alongside Scandi interiors and open plan design. Pair a taupe carpet with rich, earthy tones, lush botanical greens, and even deep gem colours. Add hints of warm metals such as brass and bronzes through your furnishings and accessories to provide a sense of sophistication and glamour.

If you’re more of a monochromatic person, complement your grey carpets with lots of delicate fabrics such as soft linen curtains and feminine pastel accents, finish off with matte black hardware to make a statement and give a sense of refinement. Don’t be afraid to go for lighter tones because Rhino carpet can handle your busy life thanks to its built-in stain and soil resistance that won’t wear or wash off and is easy to clean. This is the perfect choice for households with kids, pets – or clumsy adults!

For those city slickers who live in inner city apartments there’s something for you too. The Rhino Manhattan range offers a selection of exquisite shades that would look perfect in an apartment, it’s one of the softest carpets in the Rhino range, it truly has to be walked on for you to believe it. Don’t forget that many of these carpets can be made into rugs or runners, which is ideal in an apartment as a smaller space and great insulation means just carpeting bedrooms and having rugs in necessary areas will suffice. This range has a gorgeous muted blue shade that would look amazing as a rug against light wood flooring in an apartment.

Peaceful blues, greens and neutrals imbue your home with serenity and are ideal for minimalistic spaces needing some va va voom. Bedrooms, powder rooms, offices, kid’s bedrooms, and family rooms would serve this colour beautifully. Think of it as creating a sanctuary above the bustling streets of the CBD. Not to mention that muted greens, teals, and blues are super on trend for 2019.

Start enjoying the change of season with a change under foot – soften up and renew your home with Rhino carpets that are durable, cost effective and most importantly a stylish solution to flooring needs.
